Edo and Google Developers Launchpad are co-hosting a free event of learning and mentoring for tech start-ups on Thursday 21st September.

Google Developers Launchpad is a mentorship-based global start-up programme working with start-ups through a range of events including accelerator bootcamps and technical training. Since 2011, Launchpad has delivered over 50,000 hours of mentoring to start-ups in more than 25 countries. Edo are partnering with them in Bristol to host the first Google Launchpad Build Day in the South West.

The devised programme is aimed at aspiring tech start-ups and will be held at M Shed in central Bristol from 9am - 2pm.

The day will break down into:

Morning - for all ticket holders, there will be keynote talks from industry leaders.

Lunch is included for all ticket holders - a chance to network with fellow start-ups, Google mentors and speakers.

Afternoon - following sign up to the event, Edo will send out a screening questionnaire and match 10 organisations with Google Developers Launchpad Mentors for 1-2-1 sessions. These will run from 14:00 - 17:15. During these sessions, start-ups will get a chance to speak to mentors 1-2-1, ask questions and get advice.

Themes of the day will include:

  • Cultural development (user centred transformation)
  • What good, modern leadership looks like
  • Creating a progressive environment of self-managed and multi-disciplinary teams
  • UX is not just UI!
  • Tools & techniques
  • Gathering the right user data
  • Creating Business Objectives and Measurements

The event is designed to help start-ups and scale-ups live and breathe user centered design and put their customers at the heart of everything they do. The day is intended for organisations who want to learn how to embed customer centred thinking within their culture, and mentors from Launchpad will offer 1-2-1 advice on a range of useful topics.

Edo as a Google Mentor

Alex Barker, Edo’s Head of User Experience will be leading the day, having been invited to become a Google mentor at the start of 2016. Alex brings with him an extensive knowledge around instilling user centered thinking and lean methodologies into start-up propositions.

Alex comments:

“User-centred design is at the core of everything we do as an organisation. There are lots of ambitious businesses in the early stages of development waiting to unleash their ideas on the world.

We want to help them to ensure that a customer centred culture is embedded from the offset and they can build and grow, always focussed on customer need. Working in collaboration with Google Developers Launchpad is incredibly exciting as we are able to offer a helping hand to a new generation of tech companies”.

Who should attend?

The event is for Founders, Managing Directors, Marketing leads, Product Directors, Product Managers / Owners and Designers of growing organisations. It is for tech start-ups that already have a product with growth potential and are primed to scale.
